California Day 1

Jo and I on the plane…

Sign at the Denver airport….

Our hotel room.  It was at The Grafton on Sunset.  The hotel was right on Sunset Boulevard and was really nice. The people who worked there were so nice and so helpful.  It was a very kewl place. The picure of me in the lobby is with the flash, it is really actually very dark with kewl lights and loud music. hehe.

That was about the extent of our first day, our plane was delayed leaving Denver so we got in a lot later than planned.  We went to our hotel, got cleaned up and went to the BOA steakhouse which was at our hotel.  OMG such good food.  I had Ahi Tuna…which is my new favourite and garlic mashed potatoes.  They were fantastic!!

Nickelback

I went to the Nickelback concert with Kit and Nita in April in Calgary.

Us at dinner at Red Lobster, pre-concert.

A clip from the concert. :-) (not mine)

The girl that is mentioned in “Photograph”, the first girl he ever kissed, was there.  He found her in the crowd, put her on the big screen, chatted with her, brought her a drink. It was super cute.

One not so cute part of the concert…Nita, Kit and I got in a bit of a fight with some guys sitting in front of us.
When the night started..there was four kids sitting in front of us.  They kept wanting to stand up but someone beside us told them to sit down.  I am all for standing up at a concert, but unless I am on the floor I won’t do it unless the people behind me are doing it.  I felt for the kids, and one of their mom’s came up and asked them why there weren’t standing up and they explained so the Mom said ok, come stand with us them. Great fine, bye.

Then these two men came over…I assumed they were Dads..someone had to make room right.  Anyway these guys were really distracting and obnoxious.  They were like rough-housing and knocking into the kids that were sitting next to them.  The lady next to me asked them to move over because there were four seats. So they moved over but were real jerks about it.

I started putting my feet on the one guys chair cause he was mostly leaning forward anyway and I wanted to be obnoxious back.  They were a level below. So he leaned back once, hit my shoes and I put them down.  His buddy like shook his finger at me…which made me even more annoyed. So as soon as he leaned forward again I put them up again…and went he leaned back…he hit them.   This time his friend grabbed my leg as I was putting them down. This time I left them down.  Well the guy kept grabbing my leg and my foot and i was losing it on him. Smacking his arm and screaming a him to stop touching me. He wouldn’t stop so Wanita lost it and kicked him in the back. It was hilarous.
Anyway, at this point Kit finally noticed what was going on and he started getting involved and words were exchanged….Nita went and got security cause she was worried that Kit was gonna lose it. Security came and asked the guys to come with them.

They were gone for awhile but came back and though they fell on the people in front of them as they tried to sit down they were pretty tame.  Until the end of the show when they started trying to block our view and they were mouthing off.  Then antother kid came over, about 17 and started mouthing off as well, trying to defend his daddy… so everyone got all worked up…Nita took the guys glasses and hucked them, Kit ended picking the same guyup and dropping him on the concrete stairs, I just saw leg flying.  Someone had gone to get security by this point…and they came and asked Kit to release his deathgrip on the guy…Kit agreed if they would take him away.  They did.

Everyone around us was clapping and shaking our hands,..it was awesome.  Redneck..but awesome.

Emerson Drive

Crystal, Jo and I went to the Emerson Drive concert at Cowboys on Thursday. It was a really good show.

Crystal and Jo have always crushed on the fiddle player David Pichette.  I am converted as well.  He spent the whole show with a smirk on his face or with a big grin…showing off his pearly whites.  He looked like he was having fun.

Jo made a comment about the lead singer that I couldn’t get out of my head.  He was sweating buckets, but yet he left his jacket on… Made no sense to me…trying to keep up his image I guess.

hehe, they are a good Canadian band and put on a great show!

Raising the Bar….

The latest session of Raising the Bar started on Wednesday. I was excited, cause I have been totally slacking…

The class starts and it is not Jen who is teaching it…it is someone else…I didn’t even catch her name. But I did catch that she will be teaching all 6 sessions this time.  Crystal and I exchanged a look…the last time we had a different teacher it was painful…this time it turned out to just be frustrating.

So to be honest she has a very strong accent and has the microphone way to close to her face….so I can’t understand a word she says.  Next she is going at Mach 3 and not at all on beat with the music.  Which to me, makes it easier to get into a rhythm.  She also was not at all consistent with how many we did on each side… and to me her steps just didn’t make sense.  I was getting very annoyed.

She also separated everything all steps, then all weights, then abs.

After class everyone was talking and we were all annoyed.  I thought about asking for my money back, but i figured it is more exercise than I have been getting… we will see how she is next week.

JM

I remember the first time I ever heard/saw John Mayer. I was at my parent’s house, I must have been home for a visit. I was watching MTV and on came this video for “Your Body is a Wonderland”. I immediately loved the song and soon bought the CD.  Room for Squares is still my favourite CD of his to this day. I soon converted Josie to a fan as well.

Life went on, I was a fan, a big fan but not too crazy.  I bought all his CD’s, bought his DVD’s, even bought merchandise off his website.  Jo and I went to his concert when he came to Edmonton and we had fun.

In the meantime Jo and I have had a debate about his attractiveness. She thinks he is not, I think he is. Her main argument beinf the faces he makes while playing.   I say it is passion :-)

John has not had an album out in awhile and you mostly see him in the news for who he is dating rather than what he is doing. This attention has not always been positive and you can judge for yourself whether that is fairly deserved or not.

Jo an I decided to go on the Mayercraft Carrier 2: Even Craftier.  A cruise that for John’s fans where he and many other musical act perform. It was great!! He came out and did his Captain Stubing bit an and it was funny.

Then he did his sail away concert on the Lido deck,  again very kewl. He told a story about his dad and told jokes…which some people took seriously, which may be part of his problem.  Anyway at this point I am loving him more and more.

Throughout the cruise there was basically two forums in which you would see John.  There was the scheduled events where he was on… i.e. charming and funny…and sober.  The other times was when you saw him on his own time. Where we saw him in most cases was in the disco…where he was not so sober and not so charming when he was on the mike this time. I was kinda like really dude?

Then came his impromptu comedy act….we were not there for it unfortunately but heard about it the next day from some people at dinner.

I was starting to get an uneasy feeling, I was embarrassed…embarrassed for John,

But then I though Why? Why should he be held at a higher standard than anyone else? Just because he is famous doesn’t man he is any less human.

When I got home, I read the magazine articles and I saw the clip of his comedy act and he was fully aware of what he was doing and the fact that it would be all over US Magazine, TMZ and YouTube.  I have huge respect for that, he was just being himself.

So my obsession started. I was reading his website again and following him on twitter. I also started re-reading his lyrics and I do see a disconnect between the tow persona’s.  He can be deep and though-provoking and then he can be not so much. ;-)

He seems to have a new focus on sharing with his fans.  He is documenting his whole process of recording his next album with his fans.

The bottom line…I am full-on obsessed with John Mayer. I heart him!!

Oldie but a goodie

Do you remember the song “I Told You So”by Randy Travis?  I do, my mom had it on a tape of his along with a Reba tape with “Whoever’s in New England” on it and a Dolly tape with “Jolene”.

Well Carrie Underwood did a version of “I Told You So” with Randy and it is really good, I like it just as much as the original if not more…
